What educators are saying

Another Miss DeCarbo resource that I appreciate - my students are engaged when we use this resource. Thank you!
I loved this resource! A fun and engaging way to work on fluency, comprehension and retell. Student loved taking turns being the coach and the reader. Wonderful!

Description

Retelling Intervention for Comprehension and Fluency: This reading intervention pack for comprehension and fluency offers 60 short stories that were designed to provide your students with practice in retelling story events and details. I created this pack after I noticed I had students who struggled to retell story events as I administered their DRA. I’ve included a simple, step-by-step partner-based intervention routine which has promoted comprehension skills in my struggling readers. However, this pack works without partners, too! There are TONS of different uses for this pack. It is perfect for RTI, intervention block, small groups, tutoring, volunteers, after-school, and even as homework, as it allows the parent to be the “coach” as the student reads and retells the story. The stories could be used as assessments and would even be ideal for a program in which younger students read to older students. There are SO many possibilities! This product guides students through a process to discuss the story’s events, talk about connections made to the story, and visualize and illustrate the story together, allowing students to show growth on assessments such as the DRA as they become confident readers and have fun!

The product correlates to the Common Core Reading Literature Standard: RL.2. The pack is perfect for first and second graders, struggling third graders, teachers who need remedial reading resources, and special intervention students. When used once daily, it provides twelve weeks of reading practice and intervention!
